FAQs

What kinds of courses does DEL offer?

DEL offers a range of synchronous (in-person and on Zoom) and asynchronous (accessed on DEL’s learning management system, LearnDash, in your own time) courses.

What is the difference between synchronous and asynchronous DEL courses?

Synchronous courses take place either in-person (usually at 92NY) or on Zoom. Participants participate in the courses on specific date for a prescribed time frame. Asynchronous courses are completed online and do not involve in person learning. Participants access course content via DEL’s learning management system LearnDash and engage in the course at a participant’s own pace, within a prescribed timeframe. Most DEL asynchronous courses are 6-weeks in length.

I’m taking a DEL course, what should I expect?

Synchronous (in-person or Zoom) DEL courses often involve active movement exploration, collaborative dance making and/or group discussion or activities. Facilitators often bring in guest facilitators to share diverse perspectives and expertise.  Faciltators share extensive course materials and resrouces which participants can acess on Learn Dash. DEL’s learning environment emphasizes access, equity and inclusion. Facilitators are working experts in the field and highly trained in the DEL model.

Asynchronous DEL courses involve independent engagement with a wide range of course materials, including text, video, audio and presentations, movement explorations and learning activities. Asynchronous courses include peer feedback and interaction in an online platform. Participants taking asynchronous DEL courses for credit are expected to complete course assignments within the time frame given. These assignments may be written, audio, video, movement based or reflection focused.

How do I communicate directly with my course facilitator?

Once your DEL course has started, you can communicate with with your course facilitator through your course module on DEL’s LearnDash platform at delinsitute.org

How do I communicate directly with my course facilitator?

You are only expected to complete course assignments if you are taking the course for DEL Institute -Teacher Certificate Program credit, SUNY Empire State College credit, or as an Arnhold Summer Fellow (a special program for college students in July). Course assignments will be posted in the course syllabus and in Learn Dash. Students taking DEL courses for credit are expected to complete course assignments within the prescribed timeframe of each course.

When are DEL course assignments due?

For synchronous DEL courses, assignments are due two weeks after the end of the course. For asynchronous DEL courses, assignments are due on a weekly basis over the course of six weeks and the final assignment is due two weeks after the end of the course.

How do I turn-in assignments?

You will upload assignments on DEL’s LearnDash at www.delinsitute.org by following the instructions included in your course module. All written assignments should be submitted in a PDF format, unless otherwise indicated by your course facilitator. Title your document with the module # and part # and your name. Also, make sure your name is listed on every page.

Will I receive a grade for DEL courses?

If you are taking a DEL course for DEL Institute – Teacher Certificate Program credit or SUNY

ESC credit and you turn-in your assignments on time, you will receive a grade four weeks after the end of the course. You can find your final grade and narrative feedback on LearnDash by clicking on the Gradebook button on the first page of your course.

What is DEL’s criteria for feedback/grading?

DEL strives to create a supportive and welcoming adult learning environment where our participants feel valued and nurtured. Our feedback/grading philosophy is designed to provide relevant feedback to help participants deepen their understanding of the course content, and reflect and apply their new learning directly to their own teaching context. DEL is not a conventional academic program and values process over product, however, we do provide numeric and letter grades at the conclusion of each module/course, as many of our participants enroll in DEL courses for SUNY Empire State College credit.

What should I do if I need more time to complete the course assignments?

If you need more time to complete the course assignments, please contact your course facilitator.

What happens at the end of my DEL course?

After your DEL course, you will receive an exit email from DEL with an exit survey (we want to hear your feedback!) and information about how to get proof of completion or NYS CTLE hours. You can also find the exit survey at the end of your course on Learn Dash.
